Soldiers, Czech Republic – The Finals

Stoked to have made it back into the finals at this event! There is a crazy format that went down tonight.

How it works is based on where you qualified in yesterday’s event. The athletes who advanced through will be matched up against the number furthest from yours (Ex. 1st place qualifier VS 16th place qualifier etc.).  So the goal in the previous qualifying day was to try and qualify as high as you could so you didn't have to go up against someone who was throwing down in qualies.

In my case I qualified right in the middle in 8th  and ended up being matched with Birk Ruud who is an amazing skier out of Norway. Now what we had to do was score points to advance to the next round of finals. Whoever got 2 points out of a possible 3 would advance to the next round. The 3 jump tricks were the same as qualifying, 1 style trick and 2 tech tricks (if needed). Birk and I started out in the style round and my tactic for this was to try and win the style round out of the gate so I had 2 chances to knock him out in the tech round. For my style trick I did a cork 720 tail to truck driver, but right at the end of my trick my hand slipped off the grab which caused me to lose the first point. This was definitely not how I wanted this to play out because now in order for me to win the round I would have to throw down two massive tricks to get the last 2 points. I went back up to the top to try and pull out my first trick, which was the double cork 1620, one of my biggest big air tricks. I dropped in feeling good but unfortunately came up short on the jump and couldn’t put it to my feet, which automatically put me out of the next round. I ended up finishing 8th in the event.

The jump in all its glory!

The jump in all its glory!

That feeling you get when you don’t make it through to the next round….

That feeling you get when you don’t make it through to the next round….

It wasn’t the way I wanted it to go obviously but I gave it my best shot and it was a really fun event to be a part of and a nice change from the normal format of events.

Next up I am heading back to Italy for one of my favorite World Cup courses of the year, stay tuned!
