New Zealand Winter Games World Cup Qualifications
Today we had Qualifications for the first World Cup of the season! I had really good training sessions in the past few days and was feeling fully prepared for today! I got selected into the 4th heat of athletes, which competed a bit later in the morning, which was nice for me. The reason there were 4 heats is because there are so many people entered into the World Cup they have to split us all up so it can be judged fairly! I believe there were over 100 athletes competing in slope-style alone which is insane!
I was 6th to drop in my heat which I was happy with because I like to drop in near the start so there is less time waiting around at the top of the course. My first run went very well! I put down my run and came out with a score of 82.00. I knew that I was going to have to try and bump it up because I had some pretty strong competitors in my heat, and they were only advancing the top 4 out of 20 to go into the finals. Unfortunately on my second run I did not have enough speed for the 1st jump because the wind shifted, which caused me to take a fall and unfortunately miss out on finals by a couple of spots. I was pretty frustrated, but at the same time I know that I am skiing really well right now and that I gave it my all and that’s all I can do. It just fuels the fire for the next contests that are coming up soon! On another note I was very excited for my good friend James “Woodsy” Woods who came out on top of the podium on finals day!
I am in New Zealand for 1 more week and then I am heading over to Australia for the One Hit Wonder Down Under Big Air competition, which I competed in last year! I am super excited for that!
I'll have some more video coming to you from the last week in New Zealand so stay tuned!
